2026 Man and Woman of the Year
Our award for 2026 Man of the Year, was given posthumously to Vaughn Hagen.
Our recipient was a generous man with a deep love of service and sports, according to his family.
His organizational and financial skills were invaluable for local clubs such as Kiwanis and Sons of Norway.
He followed his Nordic parents’ lead by joining and then becoming the president of the Bellingham Lodge -Wergeland.
He was an organizer of the Border Festival every year, bringing members from Washington and British Columbia lodges together at Peace Arch Park. He attended the 2024 Sons of Norway District Two Convention and served as Chair of the Finance Committee.
Vaughn was devoted to Sons of Norway and all things Norwegian, and his family has a long history of participation. He liked being involved with people and helping others, and he had a great sense of humor.
I am sure that Vaughn is with us in spirit. Receiving the honor were his brother, Kevan Hagen and his sister, Vernene Scheurer.
